Electric Run

Last night was the OC 5k Electric Run. Months ago I came across this event and just the thought of running at night with a sea of people decked out in glow sticks was enough for a couple of my friends and I to put a team together and fist pump to the beat all the way to the finish stage! At the finish you're welcomed with neon lights and a dance party! Not to mention, this is all being taped for a music video. The crowd was fun to be around.  People even brought their dogs and strapped glow in the dark rope around them. Next event is in San Diego, and if you're reading this, I'll see you there!

Electric Run pointers:
- You can totally get away with just showing up without paying for registration. Wish I knew
- Target $1 glow in the dark packs don't come with connectors. Very upsetting
- Since it's at night you're going to hit a lot of traffic! Plan on arriving early!
- Getting a group together and dressing in theme could be a lot of fun
- Some places got muddy because of the rain, so wear your crummy kicks
- If you do have a group get glow in the dark rope and attach yourselves together like a centipede. The chances of getting lost is slim to none

The team missing Albert and I

I had a ton of glow sticks and ran out of places to put them so most of them ended up in Jenna's shirt.

Getting glowed up!

This is my old friend Maria. We're twins in many ways.

It was so fun running through these with all the music.

  1. Hi, thanks for your overview of the run! I saw some mixed reviews on their FB and Yelp.. And wow I didn't know people could just show up and run for free. I already registered, but it might be possible to volunteer to run for free instead.. I'm still trying to figure that out. I'll be doing the Electric Run in SD, so I hope they'll do a better job or at least consider some of the constructive criticism from their first run.

  2. Hey Jamie. They weren't really checking for bibs at all and plus it was chilly so a lot of people showed up in jackets or sweaters. So getting away with just showing and participating in the event is quite simple. People just gotta live with the guilt of cheating the system ;) If you could pay for registration though, do it because I'm sure a lot of the proceeds go for a good cause. Plus you get snazzy light up gear. And yes, it was a lot of fun! See ya in SD!
